The 2024 Dodge Barracuda Preview
Even though it is often compared to the Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang, the Dodge Challenger is in a class of its own. Dodge, of the big three, remains the most faithful to the old muscle car formula. Because of this, many modifications have been considered for the 2015 model year Challenger.

This improvement is often discussed by the well-known online media CarsAuthority, where in its post on the 2024 Dodge Barracuda hints at the Giorgio platform that underlies the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio cars. These modifications never happened, but that doesn't mean we won't see MOPARs that are more athletic and handle like a sports car. Here's what the Challenger could be, as well as a potential future Dodge sports car.

Whether it's the original 1969 version or a contemporary version, the Dodge Challenger has always been about incredible power, straight-line performance, and turning rubber into smoke.

That being said, around 2015, when the Hellcat debuted, Dodge considered discontinuing the outdated Chrysler LC platform before its time. This platform, which dates back to the Daimler-Chrysler merger, has been operating for more than two decades.
In a recent Autoline Network podcast, Dodge CEO Tim Kunuskis discussed the advantages and disadvantages of having a Challenger built on Alfa Romeo's rear-wheel-drive Giorgio platform. “On the Giorgio platform, we will have a car that, frankly, will be lighter and controllable better.”

It appears this argument is valid and would result in significant improvements over the current generation Challenger. Kuniskis explained that the new platform will bring the Challenger closer to its main competitors in the Muscle Car segment, the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. Dodge thought this was not a wise decision.

This would also put the Challenger on the same level as the Porsche 911 and BMW M3, which are all formidable competitors in their respective categories. While the lighter, sportier Challenger would have superior cornering performance, this would require a platform change to fit Chrysler's V-8 engine, and Dodge wasn't about to let the Challenger become just another rebadged Alfa Romeo Giulia.

Additionally, this would result in an inferior appearance, diminishing the Challenger's usefulness and, to some extent, its Muscle Car credibility.
